The Best Picture field has been doubled to 10 films, some old favorites -- as well as a few virtual unknowns -- are nominated for acting honors, and there's drama galore behind the scenes as Hollywood prepares for tonight's Academy Awards. In a throwback to the tradition of the 1930s and '40s, when the Best Picture category routinely ranged from eight to 12 films, more movies are in contention this year. But while the field may have been broadened, it has not necessarily been deepened.

The Ringling College of Art and Design will host screenwriter Oren Moverman and actor Ben Foster, both of the Academy Award-nominated film "The Messenger," as part of the college's Digital Filmmaking Studio Lab program on March 24.
